Getting Out and About in Massachusetts
Your home is where you and your family live, play, and spend much of your time. However, you don’t spend all your time there, and you don’t always keep your valuables at home. To ensure your treasured possessions have the best possible coverage, check through the details of your homeowners insurance. Mass home insurance policies have limits on certain items or categories, and individual policies may take a different approach to items stolen or damaged while away from the home.
In the event of a burglary, you may well be able to claim for stolen or damaged items that were in the house at the time of the burglary – but what happens if one of your children’s bicycles is stolen from outside a store while they were out riding, or if you lose a camera when you are on vacation? Are they covered under your policy? You may have one or more laptops that you and/or your children take with you to school, college or work. What happens if one of those is stolen?
When you review your insurance policy, you should check to see if there is coverage for portable valuables that could be in use away from your home. Speak to your agent about making sure that your portable valuables are included in your homeowners insurance. Mass is a great place for getting out on family expeditions and it can be good to know that your bikes, cameras and other equipment are covered.
